Deputy Chief Wilkerson currently commands the Investigative Division, consisting of the Detective Bureau, the Special Investigations Bureau, and the Forensics Unit.

Deputy Chief Wilkerson is a 31-year veteran of VBPD and a veteran of the United States Army Infantry. Prior to taking command of the Detective Bureau, Deputy Chief Wilkerson commanded the Administrative Division. 

As a captain, he commanded the Third Precinct, the Internal Affairs Bureau and the Special Investigations Bureau. Throughout his career, he has served in a multitude of assignments, including all four patrol precincts, the Special Operations Bureau as the administrative and traffic lieutenant, and as a SWAT team leader.

Deputy Chief Wilkerson holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Saint Leo University and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy University. He also holds graduate certificates in criminal justice from the University of Virginia and Saint Leo University.
