How You Can Help
The City has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of support in response to the loss of our two heroes that has devastated our community. The kind words and offers of help have been generous and sustaining as we respond to this tragedy and work to provide help to those impacted.
Our deepest condolences go to the families of Officer Cameron Girvin and Officer Christopher Reese, truly dedicated public servants. We are actively pouring our time, support and resources into our law enforcement officers and are working to make sure that the mental and physical health of our city staff are taken care of during this time of grieving.
GoFundMe Pages
Monetary donations are preferred by the family and will be used to ease some of the financial burdens they will encounter as they navigate through this tragedy.
Donating Goods and/or Services
Individuals and organizations who wish to make a non-monetary contribution are asked to complete the following form. This is to ensure that any resources or services can be directed to the correct individuals. We respectfully ask that well-intentioned individuals and groups not self-deploy any resources.
At this time, there is no specific ask for goods and services, however we are maintaining a list of generous offers in case there are requests from those impacted in the future.
Volunteers and therapy dogs are not needed at this time. Please do not self-deploy and show up to the police precincts or other City facilities.
Media Inquiries
We understand that the public wants to know every detail about a case like this immediately, but careful investigation takes time to ensure that only accurate information is released. This is important and we want to get it right for everyone who is involved, concerned and grieving at this time.
We further understand the want to cover this tragic event and collect personal anecdotes; however, on behalf of the families of our fallen officers we are respectfully requesting that all of our partners cease contacting them for comment. They have made it clear they are not interested in participating in any type of interview at this time.
Additionally, the process to submit requests for comment by department personnel has not changed in light of this event. All media inquiries and requests for interviews, comments, etc. from VBPD personnel should be sent to vbpdpublicaffairs@vbgov.com. Please, respect our officers during this time and utilize the proper channels we have in place.
We thank you for your understanding and patience during this time. We will continue to keep you in the loop with any developments that we can share.
