Liam Logo

The LIAM Initiative is named in memory of Liam Metz, a young man whose compassion, creativity, and quiet strength inspired everyone who knew him. Liam cared deeply for others, especially those who were struggling. In December 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, Liam passed away. To honor his legacy of kindness and support, the Virginia Beach Police Department Youth Services Unit created the LIAM Initiative as a commitment to ensuring that no young person feels alone in their moment of need. The program reflects Liam’s belief that every child deserves to be understood, supported, and surrounded by people who care.

Grounded in the belief that it takes a village, the initiative brings together families, schools, community partners, and first responders to provide early support, strengthen resilience, and build pathways toward a safer and healthier future for every young person.
