The academy offers an overview of various law enforcement topics, including basic law, investigations, school safety, officer wellness, and more. The academy includes field trips to the VBPD Mounted Patrol facility, Special Operations facility, and the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

The academy is held once per year on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. for 18 weeks at First Colonial High School, starting every January.

College Internship Program

The YSU works with local colleges and universities to offer internships to current college students with an interest in law enforcement. This program gives students the chance to experience life as a patrol officer, a career in forensics, traffic safety, dispatch, and more.
