As the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) continues to prioritize having a diverse and inclusive workforce, VBPD is proud to be a signee of The 30x30 Pledge.
As part of this pledge, VBPD is committed to having 30 percent of VBPD recruits be female by 2030. As of February 2024, 17 percent of VBPD officers are female. Nationwide, 12 percent of sworn police officers are female.
Increasing the representation of women within the VBPD workforce will increase public safety. Recent research suggests that female police officers use less force and less excessive force and see better outcomes for crime victims, particularly sexual assault victims.
