The Virginia Beach Police Department Operations Division staffs a Crime Reporting Unit (CRU). The CRU unit receives non-emergency calls that have been made to the 911 call center and have been determined to not require an officer to respond to the scene, but be more efficiently reported via telephone.

This allows for a faster response to questions, concerns and reports being generated for certain offenses. CRU officers may generate a report and if appropriate forward it to detectives for additional investigation.

The Crime Reporting Unit manages incidents including:

  • Civil matters
  • Previous Hit and run accidents (no-injury)
  • Larceny
  • Destruction of property
  • Non-violent offenses where there is no injury of offenders on scene

The Crime Reporting Unit provides a valuable resource to the community through it mission to provide efficient and professional responses to non-emergency calls for service, thus allowing patrol officers more time for emergency incidents, proactive patrol and community engagement.

To reach the Crime Reporting Unit, please call (757) 385-5000 and request non-emergency police services.

A limited number of offenses may be reported online using the ePRO system.
