The Commonwealth’s Attorney's Office (CWA) represents the Commonwealth of Virginia in prosecuting criminal cases. If charges have been filed or you’ve requested a protective order, you may need to appear in court to provide testimony. Throughout this process, the Victim/Witness Program can assist by offering guidance, updates, and emotional support.
Visit the Virginia Beach CWA website for more information.
What to Expect in Court
- You may be called as a witness to describe what happened.
- A prosecutor from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will present the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
- A Victim/Witness Advocate may contact you to explain the process, answer questions, and accompany you to court if needed.
