The Virginia Beach Police Department’s Option 6 Academy is a new initiative to train sheriff’s deputies and certified jailers for a career in policing.

Recruits in the Option 6 Academy are compensated for their skills and service with other law enforcement agencies in the area. The starting salary guidelines for Option 6 recruit pay are:

• 1-year experience or less | Y.22, Step 2 | $54,197.04
• 2-3 years of experience | Y.22, Step 3 | $56,113.97
• 4-5 years of experience | Y.22, Step 4 | $58,030.91
• 6-7 years of experience | Y.22, Step 5 | $59,947.85
• 8-9 years of experience | Y.22, Step 6 | $61,864.79
• 10-11 years of experience | Y.22, Step 7 | $63,781.72
• 12-13 years of experience  | Y.22, Step 8 | $65,698.6
• 14-15 years of experience | Y.22, Step 9 | $67,615.60

Note: After completion of the Option 6 Academy and obtaining their certification as a sworn police officer, they will progress through the Professional Development Program in the same manner as all other sworn personnel.
