The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is partnering with Off-Duty Management to provide hiring services for off-duty officers. Requests to hire off-duty police officers for security can be done through OfficerTRAK.

Off Duty Management provides the following to prospective customers:

  • Online access to information through OfficerTRAK, including job status, officer attendance, field notes and media files, post orders and instructions, and past and future shift information.

  • Full liability coverage for the customer, agency and officer.

  • Accessible customer service 24 hours a day, seven days a week through a toll-free number: 1 (948) 356-0207.

  • Dedicated point-of-contact for scheduling and invoicing.

  • Officer payroll.

Organizations that have recurring needs for off-duty officers can establish an account and schedule billing cycles with Off-Duty Management.

Prohibited Off-Duty Employment

VBPD officers are prohibited for off-duty employment in the following situations:

  • Serving as a private bodyguard or bouncer at an event.
  • Serving as a process server, bill collector, bail bond agent, repossession agent or in any other situation they may be asked to use their police authority for non-criminal justice purposes.
  • Serving as an investigator of any kind.
  • Providing security for a private party.
  • Providing law enforcement or security-related services for any employer or establishment whose primary business is the sale and/or service of alcoholic beverages (restaurants, bars, nightclubs, liquor stores or comedy clubs) — if your request falls into this category, please contact the Virginia Beach Sherriff’s Office at (757) 385-3156.
  • Providing law enforcement or security-related services for any employer or establishment whose primary business is towing or requires a taxi permit
  • Working at massage parlors, pawnshops, cannabis manufacture/sale establishments or sex-oriented businesses.
  • Working for any business or event whose primary function is gambling, except for bingo fundraisers.

Off-duty officer requests must be a minimum of three hours long. Requesting five or more officers will require an additional supervisor. Events with an attendance greater than 100 patrons require two officers. The emergency rate applies when a request is received less than 48 hours prior to the start of the shift.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be made with more than 48 hours notice. If an assignment is canceled within 48 hours by the employer, all off-duty officers scheduled for the assignment shall receive three hours of compensation.
