Residents and guests needing emergency service should dial 9-1-1. Residents and guests should only dial 9-1-1 for emergencies.
To report noise violations, call the non-emergency line at (757) 385-5000 while the violation is occurring. Due to the nature of the violation, an officer must witness the violation to take action.

Any vehicle that is inoperable and left unattended on public property or has remained illegally parked on public property for more than 96 hours is deemed to be abandoned. A vehicle is considered inoperable if it is not in an operating condition, if it is not state-licensed, or if it is not state inspected.
Abandoned vehicles on city property will be removed and the last known owner of the vehicle will be notified by the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles by certified mail regarding the location of the vehicle.
If the vehicle is not claimed within 20 days of notification with payment for towing and storage, the vehicle will be sold at auction or crushed depending on the vehicle's condition.

The Virginia State Code for embezzlement is 18.2-111.
The VBPD Economic Crimes Unit will investigate a report of embezzlement if the owner or his/her designee of the victim business provides all documents, videos, and witness information providing proof that the employee has embezzled money from the business. The victim will provide all personal information to identify the suspect in the case.
After all documents have been provided, which may require a forensics analysis of the financial dealings of the business, the Economic Crimes Unit will review the case to see if criminal charges can be placed against the suspect.

The Virginia State Code for identity theft is 18.2-186.3.
If you are a victim of Identity Theft, alert your bank immediately. The bank institution will put you in contact with a fraud investigator assigned to that bank. Normally, you will be asked to file a report with your local police agency. The bank will then have you sign an affidavit of facts related to your case and may refund your account for the losses.

To preserve evidence in a crime scene, do not touch anything, limit your movement through the crime scene, do not attempt to clean anything, and report the crime immediately.
The longer it takes to report a crime, the less likely officers will be able to recover probative evidence.
